Digestive system question?

Vitamins and minerals do not need to be digested. They can be directly assimilated by the body in the gut. Most food, water, and minerals are absorbed through the small intestine, the small intestine contains many folds that are covered with very small finger like impressions called villi. The villi are covered with microscopic projections called microvilli, these structures create a large area where nutrients can be absorbed Specialized cells allow the absorbed materials to cross over into the blood where they are carried through the bloodstream to other parts of the body for storage and further chemical change.
